Men's Basketball Falls To Chowan, 71-45

The Belmont Abbey men's basketball team fell to the visiting Chowan Hawks by a 71-45 score this evening inside the Wheeler Center. Chowan improves to 5-2, while the Abbey slips to 0-8.

The Crusaders will now take off one week for final exams as they are back in action next Saturday, December 13 when hosting North Greenville. Tip-off on OrthoCarolina Night is set for 7:30.

Chowan began the game on an 8-2 run before the Crusaders countered with a 10-2 run of their own to gran their first-and what turned out to be only-lead of the game at 12-10 with 12:16 to play in the first half.

A 20-5 run by Chowan to close the half gave the Hawks a 40-25 lead at the break. The Crusaders were beset by poor shooting (30 percent; 10-33) while Chowan converted 52 percent of its shots (13-25).

Chowan maintained its double digit lead for the rest of the game, as the Hawks outscored the Abbey 31-20 in the final period.

The Crusaders shot just 28 percent (16-57) for the game and was just 3-22 (13 percent) from three-point range. Freshman Nick Hough led the way with 11 points, with Deion Lane adding 10. Lane added a team-high seven rebounds.
