The Belmont Abbey men's basketball team fell to 0-4 on the season as the Crusaders suffered an 82-39 loss at Clayton State this afternoon in Morrow, Georgia. The Lakers remain unbeaten at 4-0.
The Lakers never trailed as Clayton State built a 44-23 lead at the half on the strength of 48 percent shooting from the floor. After the Crusaders closed the lead to 17-12 on four straight points, Clayton State opened the lead on a 17-3 run to build a 34-15 edge. The lead rose to as high as 25 points at 43-18 with1:42 to go, and the Lakers would carry a 44-23 lead into halftime.
The second half saw Clayton State shoot 53 percent from the field and holding the Abbey to just six field goals in 25 attempts (24 percent) as the Lakers earned the easy win.
Ray Chen led the Abbey with nine points, three assists and two steals. Markel Pollard added seven points. Kendall Ratliff chipped in with six points and a team-high eight rebounds. The Crusaders shot 27 percent from the floor (14-51).
The Crusaders are back in action Tuesday night at 7:30 when they host Lees-McRae.
