Men's Basketball Ends Season With 76-64 Loss At Barton In Conference Quarterfinal

The Belmont Abbey men's basketball team fell at Barton 76-64 in the quarterfinal round of the 2014 Conference Carolinas Tournament powered by OrthoCarolina. Barton, the two seed improves to 17-10, while the Crusaders, seeded seventh, end their season with a mark of 11-16.

In his final game, senior forward Darryl Durham posted his eleventh double of the year as he scored 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Ray Chen led all scorers with 20 points on 5-14 shooting while making all nine of his free throws. He also had four assists. Justin Kuhlman netted 15 points and Ryan Conrad added 10 in his final game.

Belmont Abbey shot 35 percent (20-57) from the floor and converted just 6-16 from three-point range while sinking 18-21 from the line.

The Crusaders largest lead in the first half was six points as they turned a three point deficit into a six point lead on the strength of a 7-0 run, capped off by a Kuhlman three pointer, to surge ahead 28-22 with 3:37 left. Barton responded by closing the half on a 10-2 run to carry a 32-30 lead into the break.

Kuhlman opened the second half with a layup to knot the game at 32, but that was the last time the Cruaders would be even as Barton pulled ahead for good with a 17-4 run to stretch its lead to double digits.

Belmont Abbey scored the next six points to inch the deficit to six, but the Bulldogs embarked on another run to move their lead back to double figures, where it stayed for the final eight minutes of the game.
