Men's Basketball Falls To Limestone, 78-57

The Belmont Abbey men's basketball team saw its two game winning streak come to an end Saturday night as the Crusaders suffered a 78-57 setback to the visiting Limestone Saints this evening at the Wheeler Center. Limestone improves to 13-6 overall and 5-4 in Conference Carolinas, while the Abbey drops to 8-12 overall and 4-6 in league play.

Belmont Abbey opened the game on a 7-2 run fueled by Ryan Conrad and Darryl Durham, but Limestone surged ahead with a 10-0 run over the next five minutes to take the lead for good.

The Saints lead rose to as high as nine, coming with 1:10 to play, after the Crusaders had closed to as few as two on a Durham jumper with 2:44 left. Limestone closed the half on a 7-2 run to claim a 27-20 lead at halftime.

Limestone outscored the Abbey 51-37 in the second half as the Saints lead grew to as much as 27, but Belmont Abbey scored nine of the game's last 11 points.

Ray Chen led the Crusaders with 13 points, ten in the second half. Durham chipped in with 11 and five rebounds, while Chris Davis netted ten.

Jonathon Garrett led the abbey with seven rebounds to go along with his eight points.

Belmont Abbey shot 35 percent from the field and outrebounded Limestone by two, 34-32.
