Men's Basketball Falls To Nova Southeastern, 86-67

Belmont Abbey redshirt freshman guard Ray Chen came off the bench to lead four Crusaders in double figures with 12 points, but the Abbey men's basketball team fell to Nova Southeastern 86-67 this afternoon in Miami Shores, Florida on the campus of Barry University. The Sharks get their first win of the year as they improve to 1-5, while the Crusaders drop to 3-4. Belmont Abbey will face Barry Saturday night at 7:00 p.m.

The Crusaders led just twice, at 19-18 which came on the heels of a 6-0 run, and again at 22-21 on a Chris Davis three-pointer with 10:54 left in the half.

After a Chen free throw tied the game at 24, Nova Southeastern ended the half on a 23-12 run to take a 46-37 lead into the break.

In the second half the Sharks outscored the Abbey 38-31 as the Sharks made 53.6 percent of their shots to maintain a double digit lead.

Chen led the Abbey with 12 points as he made four of ten from the floor with four rebounds and an assist in 28 minutes. Davis added 11 with four rebounds, three assists and a steal. Drexler Clark and Ryan Conrad both totaled 10 points. Conrad handed out three assists and also had three steals. Darryl Durham had a game-high eight rebounds.

The Crusaders shot 46 percent from the floor but made just nine of 24 from three-point range, while converting all six of their free throw attempts.
