DANBURY, Conn. - Belmont Abbey's Paige Hinds and Marissa Olmos have been recognized as ECAC Division II Field Hockey League Players of the Week, the league office announced today. This marks the first time in school history that the Crusaders have had multiple winners in a week and brings the yearly total to four recipients in the last three weeks.
Hinds was named Defensive Player of the Week after leading The Abbey to three wins. The sophomore posted two saves in a 2-1 win over Converse Monday, before replicating the feat in a 2-1 conference win over Newberry on Wednesday. Hinds then capped the week with her first career shutout, registering two saves in a 2-0 decision against Converse on Saturday. For the week, she finished with six saves and a 0.67 goals against average.
Olmos takes home Rookie of the Week after totaling five points in her first two collegiate appearances. The freshman notched an assist on the game-winning goal in Belmont Abbey's 2-1 win over Newberry on Wednesday. The forward then scored both Crusader goals in the 2-0 blanking of Converse on Saturday. Olmos is the second Belmont Abbey player to receive weekly rookie recognition after teammate Madison Ensley did so last week.
Kate Remley of Limestone College earned Offensive Player of the Week honors.
