BELMONT, N.C. – A full double round-robin slate of ECAC Division II Field Hockey League games and a total of eight contests at home highlight the 2017 Belmont Abbey Field Hockey schedule, Head Coach Bronwen Gainsford announced today.
The Crusaders, who were affiliate members of the ECAC in the first season of play last year, will gain full membership in 2017 and be eligible for the league championship, which includes the top four teams Nov. 3-5 in St. Charles, Mo.
"We are excited for the opportunity to be full members of the ECAC and look forward to playing all member schools twice this season," Gainsford said. "Moreover, we are excited for the opportunity to compete for a spot in the ECAC Tournament. Our schedule is also highlighted by new competition that will boost our strength of schedule."
The campaign opens at home on Friday, Sept. 1 with a league game against Mercy before a Labor Day visit to Converse. Conference play resumes two days later against Newberry before The Abbey plays four straight on the road, including the opener of a home-and-home series with cross-town rival Queens.
Belmont Abbey faces defending ECAC champion Lindenwood on Sept. 28 in a match-up that will take place in Davidson, then the homestand continues with three more games at Alumni Field. Included in that run in the return game against Queens, Oct. 4 iin Belmont.
The home schedule concludes on Oct. 17 against Limestone, while the regular-season finale taking place at Bellarmine on Oct. 28.
