BELMONT, N.C. -- Jamie Fox redirected a Kristen Perret shot for her second goal of the season and Anna Fleetwood made seven saves, but Centre posted a 3-1 victory over Belmont Abbey Saturday morning at Alumni Field.
With just under 10 minutes remaining in the contest, Perret took a long shot from the top left of the circle and Fox was just able to get a stick on it. The ball popped up into the air, high over Centre goalkeeper Kirby Roberts for the Crusaders' tally.
The Colonels (12-3) got on the board early with a tight-angled shot at the 9:59 mark. The lead doubled to 2-0 at the end of the half, when a penalty corner resulted in a tap-in in front of the goal.
The final goal for Colonels, who entered the game averaging 5.1 goals per game, occurred at the 45:01 mark.
Centre held a 12-9 advantage in shots, but the Crusaders (2-8) took three more penalty corners, 13-10. Six of Fleetwood's saves came after intermission as the Crusaders tried to mount a comeback.
Belmont Abbey faces three games in three days for the second time this season when it travels to New York on Thursday. The Crusaders play Molloy on Thursday in a neutral-site match.
