BELMONT, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey baseball team collected 11 hits to capture the first game of the Conference Carolinas series against Limestone Friday night. The Crusaders won 8-4 with strong [itching from Sam High and clutch hits from Ben Gobbel and Mason Dodd. The Abbey improves to 20-20 on the year with a 10-10 conference record. Limestone moves to 13-24 on the season and 7-12 in league play.
Ben Gobbel went 3-for-5 with a two-run double in the seventh.
Mason Dodd collected two hits including his 14th home run of the year.
Justin Moran also had a multi-hit performance which included an RBI single in the sixth.
Sam High tossed 7.0 innings allowing four runs while matching his season-high 12 strikeouts.
Parker MacPhail came on in relief and did not surrender a hit in 2.0 innings.
The Crusaders will complete the weekend series with a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 1 pm. The Belmont Abbey baseball team will recognize their seniors before the first game tomorrow afternoon.
