CENTRAL, S.C. – The Belmont Abbey baseball team took the first two games from conference Carolinas opponent Southern Wesleyan, Friday night earning 13-1 and 3-0 victories. Taking the doubleheader increases the Crusaders record to 14-4, 5-0 in conference, while the Warriors move to 10-5, 0-2 in the league.
In game one The Abbey put on an impressive offensive performance scoring 13 runs on 13 hits including Thomas Yoder's fourth home run in as many games. Josh Genthe also launched his third home run of the year as both Yoder and Genthe drove in four runs apiece. Matt McGarry and Cureton both had three hits in the game and Nick Beinlich recorded a two-hit performance.
In game two the Crusaders scored in the first off a pass ball before Genthe singled in a run. Beinlich worked an RBI walk in the sixth to round out the scoring for Belmont Abbey. Jeff Thompson tossed the complete 7.0 inning game allowing only two hits and three walks with his eight strikeouts.
The Crusaders will finish the three game series with Southern Wesleyan tomorrow at 1 p.m.
