JEFFERSON CITY, TN. - The Belmont Abbey baseball team traveled to Jefferson City to take on Carson-Newman Wednesday with the Eagles claiming the 4-3 win. The Crusaders move to 18-12 on the season as Carson-Newman improve to 11-16.
The Crusaders struck first in the first inning as Colin Rosenbaum sent a 2-0 pitch over the left-field fence. The blast was Rosenbaum's fifth of the season. The Eagles responded in their half of the first taking advantage of two singles. CN took the lead in the second, when an RBI double plated their second run of the game.
The Abbey rallied in the fifth as Kevin Elefante singled and Luke Cuerton smashed his third home run of the season into center field. Belmont Abbey held the 3-2 lead after four and a half innings.
Carson-Newman responded yet again to tie the game in the fifth with a home run of their own. The Eagles then took the lead in the sixth after a double, single, and a sacrifice fly.
Crusader starter, Griffin Baker, tossed 4.0 innings allowing one earned run on five hits, with two walks and three strikeouts. Eagle's starter Grant Rabbitts went 2.0 innings allowing one run in two hits with three strikeouts. Raunel Perez earned his first win of the season pitching 1.2 innings giving up a single hit, walk, and strikeout. Hunter Dodson recorded his first save as he came in to strikeout the last two batters. Brady Hill was credited with the loss in his 1.0 innings of relief. Hill allowed one run on two hits.
Rosenbaum, Cuerton, and Elefante each notched two hits on the day with Cuerton driving in two runs and Rosenbaum plating one.
The Crusaders travel to Misenheimer this weekend for a conference series against Pfeiffer. Game one will take place Friday night at 6:00 p.m.
