Crusaders Dropped by Lander, 11-4
COLUMBUS, GA - The Lander Bearcats took advantage of a Colby Lusignan grand slam homer to race past the Crusaders today in Day Three of the Southeast Regional at Burger King Stadium in Columbus, GA. The 11-4 loss denies the Crusaders of a 40th win on the season, as the Abbey falls to 39-15-1 on the year. Lander reaches the 40 win plateau with the win, as they will play USC Aiken tomorrow at noon.
Tyler Byrnes took the hill for the Abbey, seeking his eighth win on the year. Sam Linn would oppose Byrnes for the Bearcats.
Lander would give Linn a 2-0 lead in the second, as Will Jones and Matt White plated runs in the frame.
The Crusaders would draw closer in the fifth, as Kevin Elefante would drive home Nick Nunziato, who reached in the fifth on a drag bunt to open the inning. Elefante would double in the ninth to clear the bases, but the multi hit game would not be nearly enough on this day.
In the sixth, the Bearcats scored five times, highlighted by Lusignan's long home run to give Sam Linn more than enough to earn his fifth win.
Byrnes would take the loss forthe Abbey, as the Crusaders will play Tusculum with their postseason lives at stake.
The game will air on BASN with pregame beginning at 9pm. Log onto: www.basn.wgnc.net, or listen am1450 WGNC for the call of tonight's late game.
