CENTRAL, SC - The Belmont Abbey baseball team swept a Saturday Doubleheader against Southern Wesleyan University (SWU) by scores of 12- 1 and 8-1. With the wins,the Abbey remains alone in first place in Conference Carolinas play at 6-0. SWU goes to 7-8 overall, 0-3 in conference.
In the opener, the Crusaders jumped out to a 4-0 lead, giving Blake Waldren all the support he would need. Waldren would go five innings to qualify for the win, surrendering the lone run on four hits. Waldren struck out six Warrior batters to earn his second win on the year.
For the Crusaders, the 11 hit attack was led by Colin Rosenbaum, Weston Clarke and Nick Beinlich, with each having a multi hit game. Nick Nunziato would hit a three homer to put the game out of reach for the Abbey in the sixth, his fourth of the year.
In the finale, the Crusaders would use a five run eighth to complete the sweep of the Warriors. Matt McGarry would be the fire starter for the Abbey, going 3-6 in the nightcap. He added a stolen base, run scored and a RBI to accentuate the impressive outing. Rosenbaum would get his fifth multi hit game in eight days with a two hit performance in support of winning pitcher Harry Ferguson.
Ferguson would go seven innings in what was arguably his best outing of the year. The senior sprinkled seven hits on the afternoon, allowing only the one run.
The Crusaders, now 12-3-1 on the year overall, have won eight straight contests. The lone road loss for the Abbey came on Opening Day to Newberry by a 4-3 score (2/4/16).

- The Crusaders outscored SWU 28-5 in the three game series, outhitting the Warriors 39-20.
- Colin Rosenbaum is 13-21(.619) in conference play, 20-40 (.500) overall on the year.
- The Crusaders 9, 1 and 2 hitters were 20-36 (.555) over the weekend.
- In contrast, Abbey pitching held the Warriors to a .222 (20-90) average on the weekend.
- The Crusaders bullpen impressed again, going 5.2 innings of one hit relief, allowing zero runs and striking out five.
