The Belmont Abbey baseball team dropped the series opener at Armstrong State by a 6-3 score this afternoon at Pirate Field in Savannah. Armstrong State improves to 30-13, while the Crusaders fall to 25-23.
The two teams will conclude the regular season tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at noon.
Armstrong State moved out to a 4-0 lead after four innings as the Pirates scored one in the first, two in the second and another in the fourth.
Armstrong added to its lead in the seventh as it scored twice to extend the lead to 6-1, but the Crusaders cut it in half in the eighth on a two RBI double by Nick Nunziato that scored Dimino and Kayden Krause.
The Crusaders finished with six hits as Dimino led the way with three and an RBI.
Pirates starter Ryan Good pitched the first seven innings to earn the win, as his record moved to 5-1. Good allowed three runs on four hits, striking out four and walking four. Belmont Abbey starter Tyler Byrnes fell to 3-2 in the defeat as he gave up three runs on three hits in two innings. Tyler Graham locked down his eleventh save as he limited the Crusaders to one hit in the ninth.
