The Belmont Abbey baseball team lost the opening game of a three game set at Limestone by a 19-4 score this afternoon in Gaffney. Limestone improves to 9-15 overall and 1-3 in Conference Carolinas, while the Abbey slips to 10-16 overall and 1-6 in Conference Carolinas.
The series will wrap up with a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at noon.
Michael Falsetti put the Abbey on top 1-0 in the first with an RBI single, but the Saints blew the game open with 14 unanswered runs, plating one in the first, six in the second, four in the third and three in the fifth.
Limestone closed the scoring with five in the seventh to post the win.
Saints starter Jose Rondon allowed four runs one eight hits, striking out five, to pick up the win. Cameron Norwood pitched the last three innings to record the save. He did not yield a hit or a run and struck out one.
Cody Stull gave up 11 runs, ten earned on 13 hits in three and one-thirds innings. He fanned five and walked a pair as he took the loss.
Falsetti and Weston Clarke both had two hits as the Abbey totaled eight on the afternoon.
