Kyle Geswein joins the Abbey coaching staff after spending the past four seasons at Wright State University, a Division I university in Dayton, Ohio, where the Raiders collected 30+ victories during each of those seasons. In 2006 and 2009 Wright State won the Horizon League Championship and advanced to an NCAA Regional. During his time at Wright State, Geswein served as the assistant hitting coach and an infield/outfield coach. He was in charge of team travel, as well as worked with players on individual skills and aided in the recruiting process. Geswein coordinated the team’s equipment from the various vendors that supplied WSU, working with New Balance, DeMarini/Wilson and The Game. The Raiders set 20 school records with Geswein on the staff, including the record for batting average in a season (.321), hits (477), runs batted in (391) and total bases (1,056). During his time on the WSU campus, Geswein helped coach two All-American selections, 34 All-Horizon League selections, three Horizon League Player of the Year award winners and one Newcomer of the Year in the Horizon League. Two of Geswein’s players ended their season with a batting average of better than .400, with Ross Oeder (.408) and Jeremy Hamilton (.410) each earning all-league honors. Geswein played two seasons with the Florence (Ky.) Freedom of the Frontier League. In 2006, the left-handed hitter cranked out 14 doubles, drove in 42 RBI and scored 35 runs in 88 games. Geswein walked 45 times and led the Freedom with nine home runs during his final campaign in 2006. In 2005, Geswein hit a team-high 24 home runs and tallied 57 RBI as a rookie. He tallied 67 total hits, 32 going for extra bases, and posted a batting average of .231 in 290 plate appearances. Before joining the professional ranks, Geswein was a four-year starter at Michigan State as a first baseman and designated hitter. He was a First Team All-Big Ten selection in 2002 as the Spartans recorded 38 wins, the second-highest win total in MSU program history. Geswein left MSU as the career leader in home runs, belting 36 while with the Spartans, and ranks among the career leaders in RBI’s with 150 and hits with 201. A Dayton, Ohio native, Geswein lettered all four years for the Carroll Patriots, where he still holds the career home run mark. In 1994, Geswein helped lead his summer team to the championship at the National Amateur Baseball Federation World Series. Geswein graduated from Michigan State in 2003 with a degree in horticulture. Currently he resides in the Mt. Holly area with his fiancé Missi Whiteman.
