Men's Basketball Falls At Elon 87-72 In Exhibition Contest

The Belmont Abbey men's basketball team opened the 2008-09 season with an 87-72 exhibition loss at Division I Elon University this evening at Alumni Gym.

Belmont Abbey shot 30.5 percent (18-59) from the floor as senior guard Jonathan Jackson led the way with 18 points. Junior forward Chad Patus contributed 15, and Richard Barbee finished with 12. Junior center Alex Pledger (listed as Junior Appiagye on the box score due to a software error) registered a double double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

The Crusaders attempted 42 free throws, converting 33, as Jackson finished 10-12, while Patus was 7-11.
