Jason Gault & Liz Cortez Named Assistant Coaches For Men's & Women's Golf Programs

Jason Gault and Liz Cortez join the men's and women's golf programs as full-time assistant coaches. Gault,a native of Gastonia, begins his second year as an assistant coach, and his first in a full-time role, while Cortez, a 2010 Belmont Abbey graduate, joins her alma mater after spending last season as an assistant coach at West Texas College.

Gault attended Ashbrook High School where he played soccer and baseball, and later matriculated to Lenoir-Rhyne on a soccer scholarship, where he played for coach Tom Melville.

In addition to his golf role, Gault owns and operates his own courier business which specializes in office supply deliveries.

Gault and his wife, Emily, who is a registered nurse at Carolinas Medical Center, have two children, Ethan (2) and Callie (9 months).

Cortez, a native of Scottsdale, Arizona graduated with a degree in Biology with a minor in Psychology from Belmont Abbey in 2010. She was on the Dean’s List her freshman year.

As a freshman on the inaugural team in 2006, Cortez finished first individually at Lady Bear Intercollegiate, made first-team all conference, received Most Valuable Player, Player of the Year and was honored with the Michael A. Nalls Sr. Memorial Award for Outstanding Freshman Athlete.

Throughout the rest of her career she had numerous top 10 finishes, helping the Abbey to the 2010 Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship, in which she finished second.

After graduating, she turned professional in the spring of 2011 and played mini-tour events on the Cactus Tour which plays within the Metro-Phoenix area.
