June 6, 2012 Men's Volleyball Adds Two Transfers For 2013 SeasonBelmont Abbey Head Men’s and Women’s Volleyball coach Mary DeJute announced the addition of two players for the 2013. Transfers Aaron Dekalb (Oceanside, California/Palomar College) and Spencer Fournell (Redondo Beach, California/ El Camino College) will join the crusaders for their inaugural season. “Dekalb and Fournell will bring much needed leadership to a young team. They are team players and both play at a high level with the drive to help put the Abbey on the map within the NCAA Division I/II men’s volleyball world,” DeJute said. Dekalb is a 5-11 Defensive specialist/ Libero from Union Mine High School in El Dorado, California. A previous OH/DS for Palomar College, Dekalb played club volleyball for Precision Volleyball club. Dekalb was a four year letter winner and a two-year team captain for Union Mine High school varsity volleyball team and was named first team all league. DeJute on Dekalb; “Aaron has fantastic ball control in the back line. He also has an arsenal when it comes to his swing. Dekalb has the ability to score points from anywhere on the court.” Fournell is a 6-4 Middle Blocker from El Camino College. He attended Redondo Union High School in Redondo Beach, California. A three year letter for the Redondo Union varsity volleyball team, Fournell was named Daily Breeze second team all CIF. Fournell regions from the prominent Southern California Volleyball club (SCVC) where he helped his team to a championship at the California classic in 2007 and a ninth place finish at Junior Nationals in 2008 & 2009. DeJute on Fournell: “Spencer is a calm force in the Middle Hitting/Blocking position. He has power as well as the ability to read defenses. His focus will be contagious.”
