Women's Basketball Inks North Carolina Duo

Belmont Abbey Head Women’s Basketball Coach Susan Yow is proud to announce the additions of Morgan Midkiff and Brianna Johnson for the 2012-13 season. Both have signed their National Letter of Intent to continue their playing career at Belmont Abbey College.

Midkiff, a 5-5 point guard, hails from Mount Airy, North Carolina where she played for Coach Shane Slate at North Surry High School.  During her senior campaign Midkiff led her team to a 28-3 record while averaging 12.4 points, 6.9 assists and 3.2 steals per game before falling in the 2A North Carolina West Region semifinals.  Midkiff was honored as a first team District 11 selection, 2A/1A Northwest first team all-conference, and was selected to represent the West in the North Carolina East-West All-Star game in July.  Midkiff enjoyed a stellar high school career scoring over 1000 points and 500 assists.  She played AAU for Coach Rick Anderson and the Winston-Salem Steelers.

“Morgan is a great addition to our backcourt,” Yow said. “She is a natural at the point guard position and will bring another dimension to our play.  We are fortunate and blessed to have her join our team.”

Johnson is a 5-8 guard from Statesville, North Carolina and played for Coach Tami Ramsey at North Iredell High School.  Johnson averaged 15 points per game during senior season, leading the Lady Raiders to the North Piedmont Conference regular season championship and was named to the North Piedmont all-conference team and second team District 11.  Johnson returned for the final nine games of her senior year after battling back from an injury. She played AAU for Coach Chris Hardy and the Carolina Express.

“We really like the dedication and determination Bri brings to our program,” Yow said. “She is someone who has fought through a serious injury and battled back to almost top performance level.  We believe her best years are ahead of her and look forward to working with her over the next four years.”
