May 5, 2012 Stewart Runs Strong 1500 Meters At Duke TwilightDustin Stewart improved on his 1500m Run School Record by over 7 seconds when he won the 2nd section of the event at Sunday evenings Duke Twilight Meet in Durham. Stewart final time was 3:55.88, and earned him a 9th place overall finish in the event which included many Post-collegiate runners and Division athletes, a total of 32 runners. He was the 1st Non-Division athlete in the event. His previous school record was 4:02.98 set at NC State the last weekend of March. “Dustin did a very good job of letting the field take the early pace, which allowed him to run near the back of the pack to the inside out of traffic in the big field of 14 runners. He moved up nicely during the 2nd and 3rd laps. He closed out the final 400m in just over 60 seconds, moving from 5th to the front of the race over the final 50m. This was a big improvement on his previous best and moved him into the Top 16 sophomores at the Division II level in the event. That speaks well to the improvements Dustin has made this season.” Strong performances were also turned in by the handful of Abbey Athletes that competed in the meet. Leondra Pridgen placed 13th in the 100m Hurdles with a time of 16.56. Jean Luc Rolland finished 11th in the Triple Jump with a mark of 42’ 4” (12.90), and Ally Craven finished 22nd in the 1500m with a time of 5:17.51. Each of these athletes earned marks right at their career bests. This coming weekend a small group will finish off the track season at Sunday evenings NC A & T Last Chance Qualifier. The Meet will be held in Greensboro, NC.
