Women's Cross Country Prepares For Southeast Regional Meet Saturday In Charlotte

The Belmont Abbey women's Cross Country Team has had a season of steady improvements and at the recent Conference Carolinas Championship rewrote the Program All Time Best 5k Performance List.

Heading into the NCAA II Southeast Regional Meet, on November 5th, the team is coming off its  5th place finish at the Conference Carolinas Meet and has a season record of 27 wins and 17 defeats in head to head matchups at the 5 events they have competed in.  That record includes a 16 and 11 mark against Division II competition.  The overall leader of the team this season has been Olivia Flaggert.  Flaggert has an individual season mark of 298 Runners defeated and 64 lost to, good for an .823 percentage.  Monica Remmes and Ally Craven have also been within the Top 3 on the team in each meet and have records of 248-114 (.685) and 242-120 (.669) respectively.

The rewritten All Time 5k Performance List, includes 6 of the 7 members on the roster earning times that place them in the Top 14 all time best marks.  Flaggert stands at #3 (19:50), Craven tie for #4 (19:58), Remmes #6 (20:04), Meghan Donovan #7 this year (20:17), but #4 from last year (19:58), Kristen Mahoney #8 (20:27), and Jaime Lee Keller #14 (22:33).  All these marks were earned at the Conference Carolinas Meet on October 21st at Mc Alpine Creek.

Coach Mike De Witt commented on the performances of the team to this point of the season:  “The Women have done a great job of working hard in weekly training, becoming a very consistent group, day-in and day-out, and it has shown well in the meets we have run, especially during the month of October.  They have been finishing races strong.  The 10 weeks we have spent as a team has seen a good understanding of the points that have allowed them to make the gains they have earned.  We are looking forward to a good showing at the Regional Meet and continuing our improvements since the our first 6 runners are all underclass.  The team is a positive,  energized group and a lot of fun to work with.”
