Junior Kristin Foster Scored Twice, Her First Two Of The Year
Junior Kristin Foster Scored Twice, Her First Two Of The Year

Belmont Abbey junior Kristin Foster came off the bench to score two goals, her first two of the season, after senior Nicole Voets gave the Abbey a 1-0 lead as the Crusaders women's soccer team advanced to the Conference Carolinas Tournament Final for the seventh-straight season with a 3-1 win over the visiting Pfeiffer Falcons this afternoon at Alumni Field. The third-seeded Crusaders move to 12-7-1 as they will face the winner of the Limestone/Lees-McRae match Saturday at 1:00. The seventh-seeded Falcons end their year at 9-10-1.

Voets put the Crusaders ahead for good in the 17th minute when she re-directed a centering pass just inside the left post for the goal. 20 minutes later Foster scored her first goal of the year when she raced down the left sideline and looped a left footed shot over the head of Jamie Alcala and into the right corner of the net for the goal.

The Abbey carried a 2-0 lead into the break, and Foster struck again in the 71st minute, as Silvia Vazquez centered the ball to the middle of the box, where Foster walled off her defender, turned fired and beat goalkeeper Amanda Wemple, who came in at the 36th minute after Alcala was sent off for a deliberate handball out of the box.

Three minutes later Pfeiffer cut the lead to 3-1 on a goal by Alyssa Wombwell, an eye-level blast from 25 yards out to provide the final score.

The Crusaders outshot Pfeiffer 17-8. Both teams logged four corner kicks, and the Falcons recorded 11 fouls, including a pair of red cards. The Abbey was whistled for seven fouls.

Belmont Abbey awaits the winner of the Limestone/Lees-McRae matchup. If Limestone wins, the Abbey will host. If Lees-McRae wins, the Crusaders will travel to Banner Elk.
