Belmont Abbey senior midfielder Rebecca Mateo scored two goals, the first just 12 seconds into the match, as the Crusaders women's soccer team earned its second-straight win with a 3-1 triumph over the visiting King College Tornado this afternoon at Alumni Field. The Abbey, winners of five of its last six, move to 9-7 overall and 8-2 in Conference Carolinas, while King drops to 5-7-1 overall and 4-4-1 in Conference Carolinas. The Abbey dominated the entire match as Mateo struck first just 12 seconds in, running down the opening kickoff down the left flank and flicking a shot over the head of goalkeeper Amanda Huffaker for the goal. 30 minutes later Mateo struck again, lashing home a shot off of a cross from Alexa Hale to move the lead to 2-0. Silvia Vazquez made it 3-0 just five minutes later, heading home an Alana Ryczek corner kick to extend the advantage to 3-0. King scored its goal at the 85:22 mark as Morgan Shelton beat Hannah Kohls on a penalty kick after hse was pulled down in the box.
