June 9, 2010 Tyler Powell Drafted In 34th Round By Toronto Blue JaysBelmont Abbey junior righthanded pitcher Tyler Powell was chosen by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 34th round, 1,026th overall, on the final day of the 2010 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft. Powell, a native of Port Orange, Florida, finished the 2010 season with a record of 4-7 with a 5.82 ERA with 81 strikeouts in 89 and two-thirds innings pitched. In 2009, Powell was a first-team all-conference selection after amassing a record of 7-3 with a 3.90 ERA in 16 appearances. In his three year career, Powell has compiled a record of 16-15 with 227 strikeouts in 269 innings. Powell is the Abbey's first draft pick since Alex Castellanos in 2008 and just the sixth Crusader in school history. |
