Freshman Third Baseman Carol-Anne Sherrill Is The First Crusader To Earn First-Team Honors Since 2007

Belmont Abbey freshman third baseman Carol-Anne Sherrill and freshman centerfielder Kasey Kerley both earned spots on all-conference team, as Sherrill was named to the first team and Kerley earned a spot on the second team.

Sherrill is the first Abbey player to be named to the first team since Katie Hobbs in 2007 and the first Crusader freshman since Jessica Inman in 2005. She has started all 44 games and is hitting .310 with 12 doubles, one triple, three home runs and a team-best 29 runs batted in. In 20 conference games, she hit. 310 with six doubles, one triple, one home run and 14 runs batted in. In conference games, she is second in the league in batting average, RBI, doubles and slugging, and leads league in on base percentage. She was named Conference Player of the Week on February 16.

Kerley was named to the second team after posting a team best .345 average from her leadoff spot with three doubles and seven runs batted in with 18 stolen bases in 21 attempts. In 18 conference games, she hit .367 with two doubles and five runs batted in. She also had six stolen bases in seven attempts. Her 22 hits in conference games are second in the league and she ranks in the top ten batting average, total bases, walks and stolen bases.

Sherrill and Kerley's selections mark the first time since 2007 that the Abbey had more than one player named to the all-conference teams. Belmont Abbey finished the regular season with a record of 20-24 overall and 11-9 in Conference Carolinas. Both the 20 wins and the 11 conference wins are the most since the 2006 season.
