March 5, 2010 Barbee And Patus Earn All-Conference HonorsBelmont Abbey junior guard Richard Barbee and senior forward Chad Patus earned all-conference honors, as Barbee earned a spot on the second team and Patus the third according to a vote of the league's head coaches. Barbee, who is fourth in the league in scoring, started 27 games and averaged 19.2 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. He scored at least 20 points seven times and on December 1st be became the 33rd player in school history to reach 1,000 career points. Barbee was a first-team selection as a sophomore and two years ago earned a spot on the second team and was the Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year. Patus earns his second-straight all-conference honor as he gained a spot on the second team last year. This year in 24 games with 24 starts, he averaged 13 points and 8.1 rebounds a total that was second in the league standings. In the season finale, a loss to Anderson in the Conference Carolinas Tournament semifinal, he needed 13 points to reach 1,000 for his career and finished with 14 to become the 34th player in school history to accomplish the feat. |
