March 13, 2007 Crusaders 12th at Cleveland Golf/Palmetto InvitationalAIKEN, SC - The Belmont Abbey men’s golf team finished 12th out of 15 teams at the Cleveland Golf/Palmetto Invitational, hosted by USC-Aiken on the par 70 Palmetto Golf Club. The Abbey was led by senior Matt Chidester, who finished in a tie for 18th with a 10-over par 220. In three rounds, he posted a best round of even par 70 on the final day. He fired an opening round 74 followed by a 76. Freshman Joe Campbell finished in a tie for 48th with a score of 228. He opened with a 77, shot one better in the second round and carded a 75 in the final round. Freshman Conor Tomlinson finished in a tie for 53rd with a three-day total of 229. He opened with a 75 and finished with consecutive 77s. Senior Kasey Timms and junior Mads Nielson both finished in a tie for 60th. Timms carded an opening round 82, but rallied with a 74 and a final round of 75. Nielson posted an opening round 79, finished with an 80 in the middle round, and rallied with a final round of 72. USC Aiken won the team title with a score with an 861, six shots better than Virginia Tech. The Abbey posted a 900 team score. |
